Leeds United are reportedly hoping to strike lucky this time around with Rhian Brewster as they eye up a loan move for him in the summer transfer window. According to reports, the Championship leaders are looking to bolster their squad this summer, with Liverpool’s starlet a priority on their shopping list.
The Whites were keen on offering Brewster a loan deal to join Elland Road in January but were snubbed in favour of Swansea who were reportedly offering the youngster more playing time.
Liverpool are also looking to acquire some fresh meat in the upcoming window, with Timo Werner apparently earmarked. If the Reds are successful in landing a move for the RB Leipzig star, the former Chelsea youngster will have even more competition on Merseyside.
For a 20-year-old, Brewster boasts impressive accolades already, including his Champions League winner’s medal from the club’s sixth European title. However, he has made just three senior appearances for Liverpool since joining the development ranks from Chelsea’s youth system back in 2016 through Transfer market.
In his time at Anfield, he has seen strikers come and go, including Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge. Even Divock Origi currently has a question mark over his head as reports speculate over his future.
Brewster’s current season has been solid – scoring four goals in seven games for Liverpool U23s and then bagging himself another four goals following his move to Wales (via Transfermarkt). Despite being far off from top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic’s goal tally this season, Brewster has averaged more dribbles (1.1) to the Fulham man’s (0.8). The Swansea loanee has enjoyed more control on the ball, being dispossessed an average of 0.7 times per match versus Mitrovic’s 2.6 times (via WhoScored).
Although he is showing promise and his stats are spiking nicely, he remains untested in the Premier League and the potential arrival of Werner would surely make a starting berth even harder to come by. So, if Leeds can secure promotion into the Premier League and guarantee regular playing time for the England youth, the experience in the top-flight could be a helpful next stage in his development.
Leeds have a very clinical midfield, tallying a combined 19 goals and 22 assists from their engine room this term through Transfer market. Given that kind of service, perhaps Brewster could flourish.
